Our Commitment to Sustainability
Caring for our guests goes hand in hand with caring for the place we call home. Located in the heart of the Hastings Region, we feel a real responsibility to protect the local environment and support the community that makes this hotel what it is.
Sustainability isn't a finished project for us, it's an ongoing journey. We're actively building on our practices as part of Accor's broader sustainability commitments, and continuing to look for better ways to reduce our footprint.
Our Sustainability Pillars
Energy & Climate
- LED and energy-efficient lighting in place across the hotel
- Actively working to remove single-use plastics, including toiletries, straws and bottled water, from the guest experience
Water Conservation
- Linen and towel reuse program to reduce water and energy use
- Water-saving taps, showers and toilets in place throughout the hotel
Waste Reduction & Recycling
- Recycling in place at front desk and in all guest rooms
- Regular food waste measurement in Birdrock's kitchen, to track and reduce our footprint over time
Responsible Sourcing
- Local and regional suppliers prioritised for food, beverage and services where we can
- Birdrock's menu highlights seasonal, local produce
Our Team
Our staff receive ongoing guidance on sustainable practices, from energy and water saving to waste sorting.
Green Choice for Guests
Guests who choose to skip their room clean for the day receive a $10 Food & Beverage credit to enjoy at Birdrock, our way of rewarding guests who help us reduce water, energy and laundry impact.
This is Birpai Country
Mercure Centro Port Macquarie acknowledges the Birpai people, the traditional owners of the land on which we work and stay, and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who choose to call Port Macquarie Hastings home.
Accor's Commitment to Sustainability
As part of the Accor network, Mercure Centro is guided by Accor's group-wide sustainability goals:
- #NoMoreSingleUsePlastic: a global challenge to eliminate guest-related single-use plastic items across the guest experience
- Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050
- Absolute reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
- Restoring at least 30% of the world's land, coastal areas and oceans
Our Ongoing Journey
Sustainability isn't a destination, it's an ongoing commitment. We regularly review our practices, set new goals, and look for better ways to reduce our environmental footprint and support the community around us.
If you have suggestions or would like to know more about our sustainability initiatives during your stay, please speak with our team. We're always happy to share what we're doing and to learn from your ideas.
Thank you for supporting Mercure Centro's journey toward a more sustainable future.
